Epps Aviation's Summer Staff Spotlight

August 09, 2016

As summer is already beginning to wind down, Epps Aviation is preparing to say goodbye to the wonderful summer help we've had the past several weeks. We had a chance to catch up with two of our five summer staffers before they departed to learn more about their experience at our fixed-base operation.

Below is a quick Q&A with Kyle Anastasia, who has returned to work with us for several years, and Braxton Cook, who is new for this 2016 season.

Epps Aviation: How did your interest in aviation develop?

Kyle Anastasia: My interest has come from my father and my paternal grandfather. My father worked at Epps when he was younger, and the same for his father. They each worked their way up to flying, which is my goal for the future as well.

Braxton Cook: I'm never really sure how to answer this question, because I feel like I've always loved it, for as long as I can remember, really. I guess you can say it's just kind of a part of me.

EA: What are your daily responsibilities with your role?

BC: I help out on the line, so I make sure the planes and crew have everything they need, and that the passengers get where they need to go.

EA: Did you learn anything new from working at our fixed-base operator?

KA: I've learned a lot, but one bit of advice really sticks out: It's not the grades you make in life, it's the hands you shake.

BC: A lot! Obviously, there's all the job-specific stuff, but beyond that, I've learned to have better people skills and have seen how much you can accomplish if everyone works as a team.

EA: What are your plans following this summer position? Do they involve future jobs in aviation?

KA: I'm getting ready to attend AIM (Aviation Institute of Maintenance) for their two-year program. So my plans are to finish school and start flying.

BC: I plan to go to college for an aviation degree, and hopefully make a career out of flying. Right now, I'm working on my private pilot's license, and should be finished with that by next year.

EA: Anything else you'd like to add?

KA: I would just like to thank Epps and the Epps family for allowing me to work here for four years. I've learned so much from everyone who works here! No words can describe how thankful I am.

BS: This summer has been a lot of fun and I'd love to come back! I'm very thankful to have been given this opportunity, especially considering I'm the youngest one here.

Thanks to our past interns and present summer help for all of their hard work and dedication to our team. We've loved having you with us, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
